Space Information Laboratories Awarded Li-Ion Battery Contract for International Space Station by NASA Johnson Space Center

Space Information Laboratories (SIL), a leading provider of high-end avionics, Li-Ion Polymer batteries and engineering solutions to U.S. Government and commercial aerospace programs of national significance, was awarded a NASA Johnson Space Center contract (NNJ12HC60C) on June 1, 2012.

SIL’s will use it’s patent pending battery technology to develop and manufacture one hundred 4.2Vdc@5.6Ah Li-Ion batteries for use on the International Space System (ISS) by astronauts to run science experiments. The battery will be rechargeable via a USB port on laptop computers aboard the ISS. SIL’s pioneering technology will lead the way to bring NASA innovation and cost affordability on the ISS.

The work will be performed at SIL’s engineering design and manufacturing facility in Santa Maria, CA. “We are extremely proud to play a significant role as a NASA Johnson Space Center team member with SIL’s Li-Ion Intelli-Pack® battery technology to support the International Space Station mission” said Edmund Burke, Space Information Laboratories, CEO.
